Today I published my P2P video application, “Radar” on the Android Market for free, it took about 15mins in total. You can now all go and download the application and rate it five stars minimum

Serge is also going to try and keep a list of the current applications here.

Installation

We have worked closely with the Android team to ensure that the seamless AIR runtime installation from the desktop is mirrored on devices. This isn’t a simple process and as you will notice, it’s not perfect. Today, the first AIR application that gets installed will ask the users permission to download the AIR runtime – this comes from the Android Market.

To be clear, on mobile devices there is a very clear security process for 3rd party installations. We don’t intend to break that model for the time being as it comes with a number of benefits – like updating the runtime for example.

Adobe AIR is 5.65Mb compressed and 16.3Mb when installed.

Get Started

This is obviously a very exciting time and there are already some Flash based games and applications sitting on the market from Flash developers around the world. I tried playing with a few of them and it’s exciting to see so many of you jumping at the chance to go live, arguably a few jumped too soon. Please Please test your applications thorough and ensure high quality!!

Submission process

Set yourself up as an Android Developer, it costs $25 and you can use Google Checkout.

Certificates

Once you’re all signed up, you only need to submit your application APK, created from Flash Professional or using the wonderful command line. In either case, you will need to ensure that your certificate is valid for 25 years.

Go to the AndroidSDK\tools folder using your Terminal or Command Prompt.

adt -certificate -cn flashmobileblog -ou markadoherty -validityPeriod 25 2048-RSA ./androidCert.p12 somepassword

Once completed, you can now compiled your APK as before – selecting this new certificate. Android publishers are free to use self-signed certificates created in this way, however it is advisable to use a proper certificate. The Adobe AIR certificate is well recognized (Verisign based) and works on Android, Mac, Windows, Linux and more to come.

Icons

You will need icons, 48×48 and 72×72. Google have provided a very detailed set of guidelines on icon production, so I suggest you drop by and ensure that you’re following the best practices. Liz Myers has a great video session on icons and how to stand out over here (note that this was for Flash Lite, but the concepts are the same).

Screenshots

In addition, in the Android Market there are usually some marketing screenshots. These help users decide whether they are interested in your app or not and so I suggest that you spend some time making them great. You can submit two of them at 320×480 or 480×854.

Lastly, you will want to submit a promotional graphic for use on websites and other materials at 180×120 portrait.

Marketing

In these early days I recommend adding Adobe AIR into your description for the application. This will ensure that users are aware that they need a Froyo device and you can also benefit from free marketing moving forward as users will be able to search for “Adobe AIR”.

Device Central CS5 represents a huge leap forward for mobile development. It’s going to take some time to get around the key features, and so I have decided to break it down into a few video posts starting with Dreamweaver.

Flash Player 10.1 in the context of mobile devices will require some basic changes to ensure that the user experience is maintained for your new audience. The first step is to get some basic device detection working, and I don’t mean every device; focus on your key visitors. A rule of thumb in mobile is that 20% of the top devices will give you 80% of the audience, we call that relevant reach.

Luckily with the integration of Flash Player 10.1, webkit and Dreamweaver integration, creating mobile web sites for your Flash applications couldn’t be simpler.

Today we released the 5th update of Device profiles for Adobe Device Central CS4 bring the total number of supported devices to 738!

This update contains the Nokia N97, Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, Nokia N86 and Samsung I8910HD profiles based on Alessandro’s request. We’ve also added our first cut of the HTC Hero profile for testing your Flash content in the browser.

Our team in Hamburg have been really busy creating the missing (mainly Nokia) device skins, so profiles are generally on track to looking and feeling like the real devices. If you have any requests for features, fixes and profiles then join in the chatter @devicecentral.

I hope that we can encourage all of our OEM partners to provide access to skin graphics, particularly for hot devices like the Hero.

To get your updated profiles simply press the refresh button, or restart Device Central CS4.

Today Pikkoo was announced in Beta form enabling a new form of social personalization for Flash content. Pikkoo is a Finnish company based in Oulu (very cold) who focus on rich content production, by users and for users.

The Flash Player itself is used to produce rich wallpapers and screensavers within your desktop browser using a host of dynamic tools and images. Of course you can roll your own and create highly personal content to share with your friends.

In the example below I’ve used a beautiful background image, a clock widget and a another clip of a snowboarder from this theme. Themes allow you to produce your content using assets that are perfectly suited, so no more searching randomly. Pikkoo has been designed to enable users to create the best possible looking content, with minimum design knowledge. I can resize each of them movieclips, change their colour, animate them and group them when I want to use effects.

Personalization content using Flash Lite is rich and dynamic, so the clock and network signal widgets are live on my device. Notice also that the stage here is 320×240 pixels because that’s the resolution of my device, making it easier that ever to produce relevant content.

Once I’m done I can create a simple thumbnail for the website, download the SWF as a screensaver or wallpaper to my computer.

Pikkoo also has aS60 3rd Edtion and 5th Edition Screensaver Manager to help me download, share and setup my screensavers.

Here are some screenshots, check out the stunning user interface created with Flash Lite.

One of the great features of this product is that Brands and Agencies can use the service to produce Themes, so that end users can create their own experiences using assets from their favourite brands. You can imagine Disney and Nike being great candidates for user generated content created with Pikkoo.

So what are you waiting for? Get over there and start creating!!

Adobe Device Centra CS4 is updating all the time, and we’ve just launched update number 3 bringing the number of devices to 681.W

The Nokia 5800 skin is now available, so you can test that in all it’s glory. We’ve added some Nokia Vertu devices, the Nokia 5130 XPressMusic and the Sony Ericsson W705 which is another Capuchin enabled device!

Also worth noting is a new profile category called “Distributable Player”, which reports a number of supported devices. To be completely honest it looks like this slipped through the net and should not have been published.

So I recommend that you continue to use the existing generic Flash Lite 3.1 profiles.

To get it simply hit the refresh button on CS4, for CS3 users hop over to Device Central online for Update 8.

Well I hope 2009 is treating you well, as you can see my Xmas season went well… my mother’s Warcraft guild has grown to 92 people and there was a monkey suit. It has a blonde wig at one point too..

So to business, while I’m still on holiday I thought I’d drop you a note to inform you that you can download the Flash Lite 3.1 update for Adobe Device Central here.
