Hey, the ExternalInterface is just that and it provides direct access to the browser. PhoneGap just happens to provide alot of the native code and a consistent interface.

Hi Mark
Wow, thats quite a piece of hacking !
Your experiment brings a couple of questions to my mind:
-why wouldn't Adobe provide a capability in Flash to map to a native interface in ActionScript ? (like is possible with addJavascriptInterface to Android's webview). Then developers could map whatever they want using Android's SDK or NDK, without having to resort to phonegap and Javascript a go-betweens ...
- will AIR on Android support camera ?

Hello,

I'am not quite sure if I understand you right. How should I test and play around with phoneGap, External Interface and JavaScript without having a Flash Player on my Nexus?

Best regards
Eduard

Very "hacky", but I do respect the amount of hacking that is involved to get a simple Camera API running within in-browser Flash.

Reminds me of very early Flash days on browser "bridging" when it was not possible to perform certain actions because APIs were not in place ...

Fragmentation of APIs in 10.1 scares me a bit when you look at in-browser Flash versus out-of-browser Flash slated for 2010, but I'm not quite sure what Adobe could have done to prevent this from happening.

I guess the positive side is that's possible to do these sort of things, regardless of how sloppy the interaction is.
