Congratulations and thanks, for a brilliant and well-executed strategy, Adobe! The Open Screen Project is really quite amazing in it's breadth.

Very much looking forward to 2010!

Hi there!

Great thing, Adobe listen to what community say even if it's only one person's opinion

As an individual using smartphone, subjectively i want to see flash content run well on the device, for me i want more games! there are thousands flash game on the web, and games on phones are not so good IMHO (except iPhone..) - and if 10.1 can do that with not so bad performance, i wonder what possibility can happen next...

really, "Next year is going to be very very interesting, it’s time to get started"

Hi Rob,

As you might expect, those who have made successes with Flash Lite aren't willing to become success stories. What I can say is that each of them have driven very hard in a single market, focussed on a single distribution point and have engaged with consumers using a range of business models. There is no specific formula, though maybe there should be?

With Flash development on the desktop we've seen many create businesses focussed on contracting, and some with unique content, or in fact both. There is no specific winning formula because the platform is distributed so widely, and is so capable in producing wildly different experiences in video, gaming, music and branded content.

"wait till next year" is a pain point for me too, it's something that I personally have issues with, and during 2008/2009 we moved away from this form of marketing. In some ways, if I'm honest, I think we've transitioned too quickly away. That said, we have to move at some point and the outlook is such that training investments, content production and deployment will take months anyway.

Finally, some smart comments from Adobe!

I only wish to say that FPS is not the only factor to success, but it is one that costed us alot of our projects.

Mark,

There's a lot of validation to Aral's points in your responses, and a lot I agree you've set straight, but there's also a lot of vagaries as well. You cite Flash Lite app sales making millions of dollars yet provide no basis of reference of what they were, who created them, how they were delivered to customers, paid for etc... Is that supposed to entice dev's and publishers the way the App Store does? Where is the success story profiling this great "success" on Adobe's website enticing other folks to participate?

With a company like Moket (which has been profiled by Adobe) closing it's doors and owner Dale Rankine (arguably your biggest fan and best form of publicity to the community) leaving to build native iPhone apps for an operator, Flash Lite seems as hard a sell as ever for publishers, billions of devices or not.

Having been active in the Flash Lite space for quite awhile now, the overall message of "wait till next year" is a theme I've heard too many times before. Not giving up by any stretch, just hope 2010 is the year.
