I'm going to reply to myself, I found the answer. I listened to the Q2 financial result and seems the smartphones will be: Google’s Android, Nokia Simbian OS, the new Palm Web OS, and Windows Mobile. No Flash player for iPhone just yet. :(

"For Smartphones" - that's a pretty broad category of devices - obviously not all smartphones will be supported right? (haven't heard about iPhone support yet - that's still being worked on correct?) so what devices is this really for?

Very nice looking blog by the way, first time here.

I was curious so flash player lite 10 beta won’t be release? I expected atleast a beta for android and winmo by now. To bad they didn’t do it yet.

Hi, We haven't done this yet because it's a very complex piece of technology. The progress so far is good though and we are aiming for a beta in October at our MAX conference.

The player will be Flash Player 10, not "lite" :-)

Hi Mark,

Is it possible to know at this stage whether Flash Lite 3.x will be the last version in the series and whether Adobe will continue to support and market the product, say this time next year with AS2?

Could FP 10 be a distributable player in the same way as FL?

JA

Our strategic goal is to align the Flash Player across device platforms, the first player in this category is Flash Player 10. We want to enable richer web browsing on mobile devices to meet the demands of users.

Later we'll be delivering Adobe AIR for devices and this will be for applications, like the distributable player is today. AS2 and Flash Lite 3.x will remain the dominant player and this will be phased out to become Flash Player 10.

Flash Lite isn't going anywhere soon, it has shipped on over 1Bn devices and we expect to see it ship (in smaller numbers) until 2012.

I would like to add another good AS3 resource: "Learning Actionscript 3.0: A Beginner's Guide" by Rich Shupe with Zevan Rosser.

Am cracking the book/web sites now - if anyone cares to join in. We could form a virtual study group.

Thanks for giving us a push in the right direction!
