Open Screen Project – RTMP spec for Flash Video

The Open Screen Project strikes again, and this time we’re opening up the RTMP specification a protocol used extensively for delivering data and services via the Flash Platform.

It’s really important for us to open up important technologies like SWF, FLV, F4V and RTMP, to enhance reliability and foster innovation on the Internet.  In 2007 we announced support for RTMP on mobile devices via Flash Lite 3, and at MAX we demonstrated enhanced support for FLV with our Flash Lite 3.1 Distributable Player.  With the new runtime we added APIs for seek, enhanced buffer support and video smoothing.

2009 really should be a huge year for video on multiple screens and I think this announcement will serve us all very well in years to come.
