Adobe re-org: It’s been an amazing 14 months…

As you have read in the news and on Twitter the economy is such that even a company like Adobe needs to batten down the hatches.  Unfortunately this means loosing 600 friends and colleagues in probably the biggest re-org undertaken here.

Ok ok… so I’m not one of the unlucky few but this has affected the mobile and devices business unit hugely.  Friends and colleagues, people from across the global business unit have had to leave and its a very distressing time for many.  Damn those dodgy mortgages…

Looking forward January will be my fifth year at Adobe and it seems like I’ve learnt a lesson that I’d like to pass on.  Change is in fact inevitable, and over time despite the sharp intake of breath its also essential.  This change is I believe the most important since I joined because it absolutely cements Adobe’s commitment to the Open Screen Project and a multi-screen platform.

So what does this mean for Mobile developers?

Effective immediately I’ll be joining the Platform Evangelism team and my role there is ‘mobile guy’ until we work out details.  For the first time the Flash Platform banner gives us all the capability to talk about multiple screens.  So over time you’ll begin to hear more and more about mobile and devices as I work to build out awareness across the team.  I’m sure they’ll all come to love Flash Lite over their fancy AS3…

At this time the Flash Lite Distributable Player, Lighthouse Program and work with OEM partners all continue as normal.  Of course if you have any questions then feel free to contact me via email.

    Mark,

That’s the second time you’ve put a teaser “i’m leaving” post, both times I fell for it. Glad your still the ‘mobile guy’.

I like the idea of selling mobile AIR but let them know webkit html embedding needs to work. I’d like to build something that makes Steve Jobs spill his coffee.

No, please don’t do any more teasers. I just returned from Milan and fearing the worst, turned to your blog to catch up. For a split second there you got me too! You’re quite right though that “the only thing that stays the same is change”. But just as things change, seasons cycle as well. Surely there’ll be more growth in future – we just need to get through the contraction cycle first…
