N95 Accelerometer

Today Nokia research gave us a look into what really is packing on the N95 and I hope other S60 devices, an accelerometer. In case you aren’t aware accelerometers can tell if you’re running or rotating and lifting the device, the iPhone and many digital cameras make use of this to change the display orientation for better viewing.

I’m very excited about the possibilities for this and I hope we might even release a little code to get this data into Flash Lite. In the following Nokia demo you can roll the ball around and even make it bounce on the z axis.

That’s really cool Mark, I didn’t know N95 has that feature. Thought only 5500. Thanks for posting!

Yea I was surprised too, hopefully this isn’t the only S60 device to have such a feature!

Ugur, that sounds like a decent kuneri plugin, no? … that is, *if* Nokia decides to start incorporating this hardware/feature into more devices (as Mark was saying) … but you were probably already thinking this. :)

Yeah, we already done that, playing around :) Interesting, might have some use cases. We are checking some issues and let you guys play soon :)

Having downloaded this feature onto my phone i have shown it off and it has really impressed my friends unbelievably. the fact you can bounce the ball is really good. not only will it roll but its like playing squash using your screen as the wall. Well done Nokia.
